At our eleventh and final summer meeting for 2010 we watched The Irresponsible Captain Tylor.

Overview: "Justy Ueki Tylor had his life all planned out: join the military, get a cushy desk job, and then retire with a big fat pension check. The perfect plan...until he wandered into a hostage situation and somehow managed to save an Admiral! Now Tylor a man who wouldn't know what discipline was if it bit him in the backside has been made Captain of the space cruiser Soyokaze. The crew of this run-down ship is the craziest, rag-tag team of misfits you re ever likely to see, and they're not too fond of their complacent new leader. But they better learn to work together, because they're about to go head to head with the mighty Raalgon Empire. For better or for worse, the Earth s fate has been placed in the hands of a man who s either a total idiot or an absolute genius!"

Thanks to all those who attended and made the sixth year of summer meetings a success.  Hope you all had a good time and see you in the fall! - The officers of BUMAC

At our tenth summer meeting we watched Otaku No Video.

Overview (From Wikipedia): “The main character is an average Japanese male, Ken Kubo, living quite happily with his girlfriend Yoshiko and being a member of his college's tennis team, until he meets one of his former friends from high school, Tanaka. After Tanaka brings him into his circle of friends (all of them being otaku, too: a female illustrator, an information geek, a martial artist, a weapons collector...), Kubo soon makes the wish to become the Otaking, the King of all the otaku.”

At our ninth summer meeting we watched Mouse.

Overview: “Sorata is an art instructor at Yamanoue School. At the young age of 20 he is already a full-fledged teacher with a meek and nerd-like disposition. Yet Sorata has a secret...he's Mouse the internationally infamous thief and a shameless flirt to boot. This mischievous rogue is assisted by three scandalously endowed attendants. With Mei Momozono, the genius math teacher, Hazuki Kakio, the rough and ready PhysEd coach, and the lovely school nurse Yayoi there's nothing Mouse can't snatch.”

At our eighth summer meeting we watched Riding Bean and Welcome to the NHK.

Overview Riding Bean: “Bean Bandit is the top courier in the Chicago area, and a man who isn't shy about operating on the wrong side of the law. Of course, his clients must also pay a pretty penny for his speedy services. Unfortunately, Bean's reputation catches up with him when he is framed for kidnapping a 10 year-old girl, whom he doesn't realize is in trouble, by a group of shady criminals.”

Overview Welcome to the NHK: “Meet Satou Tatsuhiro, a 22 year-old man who thinks everything around him is wrapped up in some sort of conspiracy. It's not long before Satou's conspiracies turn into one big theory? That a secret organization known as the N.H.K. is out to fill the world with reclusive adolescents like himself, also known as hikikomori. Now they've upped the ante by using media to turn unsuspecting viewers into otaku, and Satou becomes determined to stop the N.H.K. There's only one problem - he's too frightened to even go outdoors!”

Remember, our meetings are on Thursdays from 7PM - 10PM in Centennial Hall Room 218 and they are open to the public. See you there!
