At our fifth summer meeting we watched Parasite Dolls and Desert Rose.

Overview Parasite Dolls: In a near-future world where the dividing line between the people and the plastic is becoming increasingly blurred, it's the job of the Branch to keep the streets of Genom City safe from the dangers of a technology that no one yet knows the limits of...if it even has any. Between the evolving sentience of an entirely new manufactured species, the chaos that inevitably ensues when backyard cyber-hackers attempt to do their own field mods and the willingness of powerful hi-tech corporations to cut a few corners, the men and women of the Branch have already got their work cut out for them. And that's before they factor in the danger of internal corruption, given that one of their own members boasts a metal endoskeleton.

Overview Desert Rose (Suna no Bara) (From Mikomi): Mariko Rosebank leads a team of all-female anti-terrorist mercenaries, named C.A.T. who have been engaged to guard a meeting of world leaders against a terrorist attack.

Remember, our meetings are on Mondays from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. in Bakeless Center Room 105 and they are open to the public. See you there!

At our fourth summer meeting we watched Galaxy Express 999.

Overview: Galaxy Express 999 is the name of a train which travels through space, beginning at Megalopolis Station on one end of the galaxy and ending at Andromeda on the other. But the Galaxy Express is more than just a train - it's also a metaphor for life itself, with passengers constantly boarding, debarking, and dreaming along the way. Tetsuro Hoshino is a youth who'll give anything to board the Three-Nine, including a promise to accompany a mysterious woman named Maetel all the way to Andromeda, the planet where, she tells him, he can get a free machine body to avenge the cruel death of his mother at the hands of the villainous Count Mecha. But nothing is as easy as it sounds, and Tetsuro is about to learn the true price not only for boarding the Three-Nine and avenging his mother, but for leaving his childhood behind, falling in love, and becoming a man.

Remember, our meetings are on Mondays from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. in Bakeless Center Room 105 and they are open to the public. See you there!
