Overview from Wikipedia: “H2O's story revolves around Takuma Hirose, a blind young male junior-high school student, though the cause for his blindness is undetermined. After his mother died an unexpected death, it left a deep emotional scar on him, which caused him to become very lonely and reserved. Due to this, Takuma and his uncle move from the city out into a rural area and Takuma is enrolled into a new junior-high school. At his new school, he meets several new girls, though three of whom he gets to know the most out of anyone else. They are, the firm and obstinate Hayami Kohinata, the kind and obliging Hinata Kagura, and the cheerful and mysterious Otoha. As Takuma interacts with these girls, his medical condition gradually begins to heal.”

A randomly-selected class of ninth-grade students are taken unwillingly to a small isolated island. Each student is given a map, bread and water, and a randomly allocated weapon. Some students get "weapons" such as binoculars and frying pans, but others get swords, guns and grenades. The students are forced to kill each other until only one survivor remains. Each student is forced to wear a special collar which will explode when they break a rule. Friends and lovers are forced to set their emotions aside as the bloody battle ensues.”

At our sixth summer meeting we watched The Machine Girl.

Overview:  “Ami is a tough but otherwise average high school girl trying to lead a normal life. Her world comes crashing down when her brother and his friend are killed by ruthless bullies. As Ami tracks down the ringleader she is surprised to discover the bullies' association with a sinister ninja yakuza family. When she goes after her revenge she soon finds herself in over her head and minus her left arm. Barely surviving Ami escapes and seeks out shelter from two kindly garage mechanics. They take pity on her fitting her with a high-powered machine gun where her arm used to be. She then teams up with the chainsaw-wielding mother of her brother's slain friend and together they unleash an unholy non-stop over-the-top kill fest against the equally creative machinery of their relentless ninja enemies.”

Jin is the epitome of the stoic samurai, lightning-quick, cool and always in control. And Fuu? She's an adorable (and somewhat airheaded) girl who manages to rein these two in to help her search for a mysterious "samurai who smells of sunflowers."
