Ninth Summer Meeting: Ranma 1/2 Season One

At our ninth summer meeting we watched Ranma 1/2 Season One.  "It's not easy being teenage martial artist Ranma Saotome, but it's even worse when your martial-artist father Genma takes you from home at an early age to go on a decade-long training mission. He doesn't speak a word of Chinese, and yet he insists upon bringing you to the cursed training ground known as Jusenkyo, where falling into one of the many springs there instantly turns you into whoever-or whatever-drowned there last. And then, the two of you have this little accident...From now on, a splash of cold water will turn your father into a giant panda, while you...well, you turn into a red-haired (and problematically well-built) female version of yourself. Hot water will reverse the effect, but only until the next time. What's a half-guy, half-girl to do?."

At our eighth summer meeting we had a rare mystery disk night, we had no clue what would get voted in and only short descriptions were given of the titles.  The winner ended up being the live action Baptism of Blood. “Sakura’s mother is making her life a living hell. Disfigured and half-mad, she rules her daughter’s life with an iron fist in the crumbling mansion that is their home. But when Sakura stumbles upon a mad scientist’s fiendish machine, she discovers that her mother is really evil! For twenty years, she has concealed the ghastliest of schemes to transplant her own brain into Sakura’s helpless body!”

At our seventh summer meeting we watched Ah! My Goddess - The Movie.  "It has been three spring-times since Belldandy came to Earth to grant Keiichi one wish. Things seem to be fine with them while living in the temple with Belldandy's sisters Urd and Skuld, but little do they know that a fallen god from Belldandy's past has escaped from his lunar prison. He has plans for everyone which do not include what the goddess and her human lover wanted for themselves."

At our sixth summer meeting we went a little off the beaten path and watched the Asian live action movie The Legend of Suriyothai.  “Thai Prince Chatrichalerm Yukol himself directed this saga of 16th century Thailand, which plunges deep into the era's royal court intrigue and bloody battles with neighboring Burma. The plot centers around two women: The noble and beautiful Princess Suriyothai (M.L. Piyapas Bhirombhakdi), who sacrifices her own true love (and eventually, her life) for the good of the country, and Srisudachan (Mai Charoenpura) a scheming lady of the court who plots to seize the throne.“

At our fifth summer meeting we watched Highlander - The Search for Vengeance.  "The lone warrior Colin travels with the wise-cracking ghost Amergan through the ages searching for the immortal despot Marcus Octavius, who killed his lover on the Celtic plains tens of centuries ago. On his quest, he discovers New York is submerged, and one dominant monolith fortress towers over the seas. Colin can save the survivors, but his sword only hungers for the blood of one man. Despite many lifetimes of training, Colin has failed to vanquish Marcus on the great battlefields of history. Can he finish what he started and stop Marcus? Will Colin lead the people to freedom or become consumed by hate? There can be only one."
